BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - A Brookhaven man convicted in 2004 fatal shooting of a local businessman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

The Daily Leader reports (https://bit.ly/1cGTWq6) Aaron LaDaniel Lyons was sentenced Monday for manslaughter and armed robbery. He was convicted last week in Lincoln County Circuit Court.

Prosecutors say businessman John Deere was shot three times outside his convenience store, Airport Pik & Pak on U.S. Highway 51 in Brookhaven, on Jan. 16, 2004.

Judge Davis Strong sentenced Lyons to 20 years for manslaughter and 35 years for armed robbery.

Lyons was indicted in September of 2014. Authorities say DNA evidence from the crime scene was matched to Lyons, who was in jail in Houston, Texas, on other charges when he was arrested in the Mississippi case.
