PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - One man died and another was injured in gunfire outside a suburban Portland home, police said.

Tigard police officers found the dead man Sunday night after they were called to the scene by an occupant of the house, police spokesman Jim Wolf said. Not long after, a man suffering from gunshot wounds arrived without an ambulance at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center in Tualatin.

The wounded man, William Nelson Schultz, 26, of Hillsboro, was released from the hospital Monday morning and booked into the Washington County Jail on an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation. He has not been charged in the shooting.

Police have yet to say how the men knew each other or why they were outside a house in which neither of them lives.

“We have no information that connects these people to this residence,” Wolf said. “This is the question that investigators are working to gain some insight into: What was the purpose for those people to be at this location.”

Wolf, however, said the house is very familiar to officers.

“There have been multiple, multiple visits here from the first of this year alone,” Wolf said. “It’s a home that has a history of various issues.”

Among those issues are domestic violence, juvenile-related matters, the serving of warrants and suspicious persons coming to and from the house, Wolf said.

Wolf declined to say if any weapons have been found, if detectives believe the men exchanged gunfire or if a third person might have been involved. But police don’t believe the public is at risk, he said.

Police obtained a search warrant, and investigators spent Monday going through the home. An autopsy was also being done.
