HILL CITY, S.D. (AP) - State transportation officials have reopened two highways in the Hill City area that were closed due to flash flooding following heavy rain in western South Dakota.

U.S. Highway 16/385 and state Highway 87 were closed Saturday and reopened Sunday.

Officials say water in the area remains high and motorists should still use caution. Authorities say a car can be swept away by flowing water only a foot or two deep.
