NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a 34-year-old man was struck and killed by a bus while crossing the multi-lane Staten Island Expressway.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight Monday at Mosel Avenue.

Police say the victim was found unresponsive with trauma about his body. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police say an Omni bus was traveling east on the expressway when it struck the victim as he was crossing the expressway from south to north.

The bus driver remained on the scene.

No charges have been filed. The investigation is continuing.

The victim was identified as William McGowan of Staten Island.
