WOODLAND, Wash. (AP) - Police have identified a man shot and killed by police early Sunday morning in the southwest Washington town of Woodland.

The Vancouver Columbian newspaper reports (https://is.gd/p6GkMl ) Gene Marshall died early Sunday morning.

His wife called 911 at about 1:40 a.m. to report that her husband had a gun and had threatened her and threatened to kill himself.

Police say Officer Terry Casey arrived at their residence about five minutes later. Marshall approached Casey with a handgun and Casey fired his weapon, striking and killing Marshall.

Casey, a 13-year-veteran of the Woodland Police Department, has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Clark County Sheriff’s office investigates.
