ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Anaheim police say a man with a large kitchen knife has been shot and killed by officers.

Police said in a statement that an officer who was in the middle of a traffic stop Monday afternoon was charged by a man in his 30s who wasn’t involved in the stop.

Lt. Eric Trapp says the man was carrying a large kitchen knife.

Trapp says another officer saw the attack and stopped to help, and the suspect then charged the second officer.

Both officers opened fire on the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at UC Irvine Medical Center.

The Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating the shooting, per standard protocol, and it will also be analyzed by an independent watchdog.
