BALTIMORE (AP) - Police have identified a young woman whose body was discovered after a fire in a northeast Baltimore home as a 16-year-old student.

Authorities said they were called to a fire just before 6 a.m. Sunday. On Monday, police identified the victim as 16-year-old Arnesha Bowers. Investigators said a teen’s body was found during a search of the home and they believe she was killed before the house was intentionally set on fire.

Officials at Baltimore City College notified students and parents and put a crisis team in place.

Bowers lived in the house, but police did not say who lived there with her.

Police said they are waiting for an autopsy report for a cause of death. It is unclear if Arnesha was targeted or if the crime was random.
