ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a woman who drove into oncoming traffic on Ga. 400 told them she did it on purpose in what they’re calling a suicide attempt.

Multiple news outlets reported Monday 67-year-old Patty Ann Cressaty drove against traffic in the emergency lane of Georgia 400 southbound Sunday morning. She struck the concrete median before setting off a fiery three-vehicle crash near Lenox Road.

A witness rescued Cressaty, pulling her from the burning wreckage. She was critically injured. The drivers and a passenger from two other cars were also injured.

Authorities say Cressaty has been cited for reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road. She remains in the hospital.
