RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia National Guard soldiers and heavy construction equipment are heading to Southside later this week to help with an economic development project in Henry County.

The guard says the annual training exercise Friday is being done at the request of Henry County officials. The guard will lend its engineering skills to the construction and development of the Patriot Centre Industrial Park.

More than 120 soldiers will be involved and more than 60 pieces of heavy construction equipment will be at the Martinsville site.

The help is through a project that provides engineering construction operations, personnel and equipment support at no cost to the county.

The program provides training opportunities for soldiers for wartime and domestic missions.
