MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is reminding moose hunters they have until June 17 to apply for a permit for this fall’s hunt.

The department says the most efficient and quickest way to apply is through the vtfishandwildlife.com website.

Hunters can also apply with traditional paper applications, which are available from license agents.

The department is issuing 225 regular moose season permits for the regular season, which starts Oct. 17 and ends Oct. 22, or for one of 40 permits for the Oct. 1-7 archery season.

Biologists estimate Vermont has about 2,400 moose with the greatest concentration in the Northeast Kingdom.
