WESTFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials say the co-owner of an inn in Westfield died in a fire that engulfed the building.

Authorities say Gary Bouchard-Pike - an owner of the English Rose Inn near Jay Peak resort in northern Vermont - died in the fire Friday afternoon.

Montgomery Fire Chief Bill Baker says the department received a call from a woman who said her husband was in a wheelchair in the basement and the house was on fire.

Witnesses told police that Bouchard-Pike was attempting to thaw pipes when the fire started.

Two others escaped the blaze - one with minor burns and smoke inhalation and the other with no injuries.

Authorities say no guests were at the 14-room bed and breakfast when the fire broke out.
