SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County sheriff’s officials say a deputy is recovering from wounds sustained when he was slashed by an inmate at a Santa Ana jail.
Lt. Jeff Hallock says the deputy was picking up lunch trays Monday in the disciplinary isolation wing of Central Men’s Jail when the inmate reached through the bars of his cell and sliced the deputy’s left arm.
The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1E8Cog4 ) the deputy was taken to a hospital and received stitches.
Tom Dominguez, president of the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs, says the inmate had hidden a “contraband weapon” in his hand during the attack.
