UNION, S.C. (AP) - The Union County sheriff is warning people about tax refund checks being stolen from mailboxes.

The sheriff’s office has told local media outlets that there have been two incidents of stolen mail reported recently in the southern part of the county. Deputies think the people may be looking for tax refund checks.

Deputies are encouraging people to monitor their mailboxes carefully around the usual delivery times. They say people should report suspicious people in the area.

Sheriff David Taylor says those who steal from mailboxes could face state and federal charges.
