BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Two Gulfport men could take their seats on the Mississippi Gaming Commission next week in Biloxi — if the state Senate can confirm their nominations in time.

The Sun Herald reports ( https://bit.ly/1HIyRGm ) the Gaming Commission meeting scheduled for March 19 at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino will have to be postponed if one or both of Gov. Phil Bryant’s nominees aren’t confirmed by then to provide a quorum on the three-member panel.

Officials say background checks and peer reports have to be completed before Alben Hopkins Sr. and Jerry Lester Griffith are confirmed.

The nominees will succeed John Hairston of Gulfport and Wally Carter of Ocean Springs, who both resigned this year.
