SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A man who authorities say harassed Sacramento area school district officials for years has been arrested for allegedly punching a school board member in the face at a grocery store.

The Sacramento Bee newspaper (https://bit.ly/1E83RvX) says 45-year-old James Melvin Stewart was taken into custody at his home Tuesday.

The arrest came five days after the alleged assault on Richard Currier, a trustee of the tiny Elverta Joint Elementary School District. School officials say Currier received stitches for a wound sustained when his head hit the ground.

Stewart could face charges including assault with a deadly weapon and felony assault causing great bodily injury. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.

The newspaper says Elverta superintendent Michael Borgaard was granted a restraining order against Stewart in 2013.
