ABINGDON, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say no charges will be filed in the death of an Abingdon pedestrian who was hit by a salt truck.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller tells the Bristol Herald Courier (https://bit.ly/1D7chbK ) that the Washington County commonwealth’s attorney declined prosecution.

A salt truck driven by 39-year-old Philip J. Vestal of Abingdon hit 44-year-old Jerry W. Otey as he walked along U.S. Highway 11 in February. Otey died at the scene.
