RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Spearfish woman who scammed the federal government has been ordered to pay nearly $44,000 in restitution.

Authorities say 67-year-old Linda Anderson lied about living arrangements of her daughter and grandchild to collect higher payments through the government’s Supplemental Security Income program.

The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1FR1qjR ) that Anderson pleaded guilty in November to stealing public money. Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Viken recently ordered her to pay $43,856 in restitution and spend a year on unsupervised release.
