SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - About three dozen members of the New York National Guard are conducting a joint training exercise at two upstate military installations.

National Guard officials say Saturday’s training at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse and Fort Drum in northern New York will involve 30 airmen and the crew of two CH-47F Chinook helicopters based in Rochester.

The Air Guardsmen are members of the 274th Air Support Operations Squadron based at Hancock. The Chinooks are operated by soldiers in the 126th Aviation based at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Rochester International Airport.

The Guardsmen will conduct helicopter familiarization training, safety briefings and other training at Hancock before flying to Fort Drum, where they’ll train in CH-47 landing procedures and sling loading.

It’s the first time the 274th will train with the Army National Guard aviators.
