ATLANTA (AP) - Fulton County prosecutors say a man has been sentenced in the fatal shooting of a metro Atlanta police lieutenant.

District Attorney’s spokeswoman Yvette Jones said in a statement Monday that 49-year-old Robert Cook pleaded guilty in the 2010 death of 56-year-old Chattahoochee Hills police Lt. Michael Vogt.

Authorities say Vogt was shot after asking for Cook’s driver’s license when he stopped him Feb. 15, 2010. Jones says Cook has bipolar disorder and was on six medications on the day of the shooting. Because of Cook’s psychological condition he was sentenced to life without parole instead of death.

Prosecutors say Cook fled the scene and was arrested two days later in Fairburn after a manhunt. Cook was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault on a peace officer and more.
