TABIONA, Utah (AP) - A councilman in a small Utah town has pleaded guilty to charges of stalking and lewdness.

The Deseret News (https://bit.ly/1Fwma1V) reports that 25-year-old Jason Dan Hoyt pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charges in court Monday. He is accused of sending a 14-year-old girl sexually explicit Facebook messages.

Hoyt told investigators he thought the girl was 17.

Police contacted the girl after receiving an anonymous tip. She gave them screenshots of her conversations with Hoyt.

Hoyt was sworn in as a councilman in Tabiona, a town of a few hundred about two hours southeast of Salt Lake City, in 2014. They mayor would not say Monday if Hoyt still holds that position.

His attorney was not immediately available for comment.
