SHELTON, Wash. (AP) - The Mason County sheriff’s office says a man accidentally shot his wife while cleaning a firearm at their home near Shelton on Monday.

Detective William Adam told KBKW Radio (https://is.gd/LgcG3O ) the man called 911 just before 5 p.m. A deputy sheriff and medics performed CPR on the 67-year-old woman but she could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

Gary Crandell was taken to the Mason County jail for investigation of negligent homicide.
