CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina has hired Tray Scott as its defensive line coach, completing an overhaul of its defensive coaching staff.

Scott spent two seasons as the line coach at UT Martin in the championship subdivision ranks. He had worked as a graduate assistant at Mississippi, Arkansas State and Arkansas Tech.

Scott’s hiring completes the staff. Coach Larry Fedora also hired former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik as his defensive coordinator, former Nebraska defensive coordinator John Papuchis as linebackers coach, and Cornhuskers assistant Charlton Warren as defensive backs coach.

The overhaul came after UNC allowed the most points and yards in a season in its history last year, along with giving up single-game records of 70 points and 789 yards at East Carolina.
