BURTON, Mich. (AP) - A school has cancelled Thursday’s classes so children can attend a memorial service for an 11-year-old student who was shot to death on the porch of a house in Flint.

William L. Coppage was killed last Friday evening.

Twenty-four-year-old Tovonte Jones of Grand Blanc was arraigned Tuesday in Flint District Court on a second-degree murder charge. His probable cause hearing is scheduled March 24.

Police Detective Ron Dixon said Jones is the boy’s cousin.

William was a sixth-grader at Burton Glen Charter School in neighboring Burton, and The Flint Journal (https://bit.ly/1x1pKQd ) says the school has been raising money for his family.

His funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vermont Christian Church in Flint.
