PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a suburban Philadelphia police officer has been taken to the hospital after being injured in what initial reports are characterizing as an accidental shooting.

Emergency dispatchers in Montgomery County say an ambulance was called to the Plymouth Township police station shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials said an officer was taken to Einstein Medical Center-Montgomery with what was reported to be a leg wound.

They said the shooting was reported to have been an “accidental discharge.”

The officer’s condition and other details about the case weren’t immediately available, and it wasn’t clear whether any other officers were involved.
