BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Brian Slodysko, a journalist with experience covering politics and government, has been hired by The Associated Press to help cover the 2015 Louisiana legislative session.

The 12-week assignment was announced Thursday by South Region Editor Lisa Marie Pane and Deep South Editor Jim Van Anglen.

Slodysko, who starts April 6, will work alongside reporter Melinda Deslatte.

The 32-year-old covered government, politics, courts and crime as a staff reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times. He reported on Cook County government and helped with coverage of gubernatorial and mayoral elections during his tenure at the newspaper.

He was previously a suburban reporter for The Chicago Tribune and covered legislative sessions for news outlets in Washington state, including AP.



Slodysko holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Washington in Seattle.
