NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Two cargo ships collided on a foggy Mississippi River near the Chalmette Battlefield down from New Orleans.
The U.S. Coast Guard says no injuries or pollution resulted from the Friday morning collision involving the Heranger, a general cargo vessel, and the Costas L, a bulk carrier.
Chief Warrant Officer Adam Floyd says the Heranger’s anchor got caught in the mooring line of the Costas L about 7:40 a.m. He says the Coast Guard is still investigating the incident.
WVUE-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1MV8JsY ) a spokesman with the Port of New Orleans says the Heranger was entering anchorage when it lost power. It then drifted into the Costas L which was moored at the Chalmette buoys. The spokesman described the damage as minor.
The collision did not affect navigation on the river.
