TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (AP) - Police have charged a man accused of hitting a police officer with a stolen sport-utility vehicle and then causing a fatal crash.
Prince George’s County police say 22-year-old Larry Hinson of southeast Washington has been charged with assault on a police officer, auto theft and other charges, and that additional charges are possible.
The crash occurred Thursday night in Temple Hills. Police say Hinson sped off after a traffic stop, and an officer was struck and hurt in the process. About a half-mile away, police say Hinson crashed into three vehicles, and one of the drivers died. He’s been identified as 60-year-old Charlie Viverett of Clinton.
Hinson was arrested about a half-hour after the crash. Police say Hinson is currently on probation for armed carjacking.
