RICHARDTON, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say one person was killed and two others were injured following a crash on Interstate 94 near Richardton.

The North Dakota State Highway Patrol says 21-year-old Cameron Byrd of Duncanville, Texas, was driving east on the highway early Sunday morning when his vehicle rear-ended a semitrailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passengers, a 19-year-old Florida man and a 20-year-old Oregon man, were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known Monday.

The Highway Patrol says two additional crashes, including a rollover, were caused by the initial accident. No other injuries were reported.

Eastbound lanes on I-94 were closed for more than 12 hours following the incident.

Investigators believe icy road conditions may have contributed to the fatal crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
