WALLACE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say three people killed in a Duplin County wreck were speeding away from a nightclub shooting where one of the people in the car was wounded in the foot.

Deputies told media outlets that the crashed happened about 9 miles east of Wallace around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say the car ran off the right side of the road, hit a ditch and flipped several times, throwing everyone inside out. Deputies say 24-year-old Ashley Pierce and 23-year-old Nicole Pickett died at the scene of the wreck and 35-year-old David Robinson died at the hospital.

Authorities say one other person was shot at the nightclub, which was operating illegally after being shut down several years ago. That person’s condition was not known.

Deputies haven’t made any arrests.
