TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa woman whose baby drowned while unattended in a bathtub has been sentenced to three years in prison.

A Hillsborough County judge sentenced 24-year-old Sierra McMillan on Monday after she pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

Deputies say McMillan placed her 7-month-old son in the tub and started the water one afternoon in April 2013. When she answered her apartment door for a salesman, she reportedly left the water running.

The salesman told deputies that he could hear the water running and the infant crying while inside the home. The baby stopped crying after a few minutes. The salesman says McMillan eventually went to turn off the water. She returned and asked the solicitor to come back another time.

An autopsy listed the infant’s death as an accidental drowning.
