NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Newark Penn Station has celebrated its 80th anniversary with a nostalgic look back.

New Jersey Transit offered behind-the-scene tours on Monday, and historic buses were on hand at the train and bus station. Funded by Newark and the Pennsylvania Railroad, the building’s original construction cost $42 million.

The station underwent extensive renovations in 2007, including the restoration of its façade, train platform improvements and other upkeep.

Newark Penn Station helps shuttle tens of thousands of commuters every weekday.
