ATLANTA (AP) - The chairman of the powerful Georgia House Transportation Committee has been hospitalized with chest pains.

Republican Rep. Jay Roberts of Ocilla went to a local hospital as a precautionary measure on Monday. Kaleb McMichen, press secretary to House Speaker David Ralston, says doctors are performing routine tests but 45-year-old Roberts is “doing fine” and resting comfortably.

Roberts recently steered a transportation bill through the state House, detailing the legislation for more than two hours before it passed 123-46.

Roberts is a farmer and is married with two children. He has served in the House since 2003 and is a graduate of Valdosta State University, where he played baseball.
