BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Court documents indicate that a teacher at a private Maine high school found dead in a Bangor hotel room last weekend was having inappropriate online chats with a 16-year-old female student and asked her for nude pictures of herself.

An affidavit indicates that 35-year-old Jeremiah Gorman, a social sciences teacher at John Bapst Memorial High School, was being investigated for sexual exploitation of a minor in connection with the chat and photos.

Gorman was found dead in a hotel room Saturday.

Head of School Mel MacKay said in an email to the school community that police had indicated it was a suicide.

The court documents indicate the chats and photos were on the social media apps Whisper and Snapchat.

The school has made counselors available.
