BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Jefferson County sheriff’s officials say a woman looking to collect a debt was fatally shot overnight.

Sheriff’s spokesman Randy Christian says the 33-year-old woman and one of her friends drove to western Jefferson County early Tuesday morning to meet the suspect.

Christian says the suspect shot the woman while she was sitting in the driver’s seat of the car. Christian says the woman’s friend fled on foot and returned after the suspect left the scene.

Christian says the woman’s friend drove her to UAB hospital but the woman was already dead. A detailed description of the suspect wasn’t immediately available and no arrests have been made. The woman’s identity hasn’t been released.
