FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Lauderdale County sheriff’s officials say a clerical error led to the accidental release of a corrections inmate last week.

Sheriff Rick Singleton tells WHNT-TV (https://bit.ly/1GQnWtt ) Michael Prater was released because data didn’t reach the deputy who let him go in time. An internal investigation was launched after the man was accidentally released and recaptured. Authorities say Prater was a domestic violence and child abuse suspect.

Singleton calls the error a valuable lesson for the department’s deputies.
