COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A city councilwoman up for a recall election in Colorado Springs, Colorado is facing criticism over the condition of two apartment buildings she owns in Kansas City.

The president of the Independence Plaza neighborhood association says Helen Collins’ properties are a menace and need to be cleaned up.

Tom Ribera told The Gazette (https://bit.ly/1FTkv6S) of Colorado Springs that neighbors trying to reach Collins recently found her after an Internet search brought up stories about the recall and an ethics committee investigation. He said he sent a letter to Collins, Kansas City officials and the newspaper.

Collins said she didn’t know about the complaints.

Records show that Collins’ properties have been investigated for property violations such as litter, weeds and cracked paint but it’s unclear if any fines were issued.
