DOVER, Del. (AP) - The Delaware Attorney General’s Office says a state trooper was justified in fatally shooting a man who had shot him after a car chase.

In a report issued Monday, the Attorney General’s Office says 26-year-old Cpl. Lloyd McCann was justified in using deadly force during a gun battle with 29-year-old Dennis Hicks.

WBOC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1CWyRnO) that troopers say on June 25, McCann went to a home in Magnolia after a fight was reported between Hicks and his girlfriend.

Police say Hicks led McCann on a high-speed chase on Route 1. When the chase ended, authorities say Hicks got out of his car and shot McCann with a handgun.

McCann returned fire and shot and killed Hicks. McCann had been shot in the face and hand and was hospitalized.
