SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (AP) - A former sheriff’s deputy who was a school resource officer has been indicted on charges that he sexually abused a student more than a decade ago.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1C7bzIs) that a Jackson County grand jury this month indicted Lee Carrell Perry on nine counts of sexual offenses. The charges include statutory rape, second-degree sodomy and enticing a child for immoral purposes.

Perry was a school resource officer at Skyline School in 2003 and 2004, when a girl told authorities was abused starting at age 13.

Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips said an investigation was opened back then, but said the victim and her family didn’t pursue charges.

Al.com reports that the former student recently came forward as an adult to pursue charges.

It wasn’t known whether Perry has a lawyer.
