BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Transportation Secretary says the I-91 bridge project in Brattleboro will be delayed a year, meaning that four-lane traffic will not be restored in that area until November of 2016.

Secretary of Transportation Sue Minter told the Brattleboro Selectboard on Monday that the entire project will be finished in the spring of 2017.

Minter said the delay is caused by permitting delays, unanticipated subsurface conditions and a harsh winter.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (https://bit.ly/19inNnd ) that officials say the lead contractor, PCL, will have to pay for the delay via “liquidated damages” that still are being negotiated.
