RIDGWAY, Pa. (AP) - Jury selection was continuing for a northwestern Pennsylvania man charged with fatally stabbing his girlfriend whose body was found near deer carcasses in a park.

Twenty-four-year-old Nicholas Martin, of Johnsonburg, has been charged in Elk County with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse in the March 2013 death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth, of Ridgway.

The Bradford Era (https://bit.ly/1ENcDlC) says jury selection began and was continuing Tuesday. Attorneys hoped to make opening statements Wednesday.

A friend has testified at a preliminary hearing that Martin told him he had killed Forsyth, who authorities said was strangled and then stabbed multiple times with a screwdriver as well as a kitchen knife. Her body was found in a garbage bag buried near several deer carcasses in a Ridgway Township park.

Martin’s attorneys plan a mental infirmity defense.
