ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A knife-wielding intruder fatally shot by an Albuquerque homeowner during a break-in has been identified as a man with a criminal record.

The intruder who forced his way into the home through a screen door early Monday morning was identified as 43-year-old Willie Amador.

KOB-TV (https://goo.gl/a1wFFr ) reports that court records indicate that Amador’s record included convictions for burglary, escaping jail and battery against a household member.

Police said the homeowner won’t be charged because he was defending himself and his family.

Officers called to the home found a dead person with a 6-inch knife lying next to his body.

Police said they believe the intruder was shot by the homeowner after a brief struggle.
