PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence man who is an alleged member of the Hartford Soldiers street gang has pleaded guilty to shooting another man last year after a fight over money.

Twenty-year-old Khari Northup was sentenced Friday in Providence Superior Court to 40 years in prison with a mandatory 20 years to serve.

Prosecutors say Northup shot Ramon Figueroa on March 2, 2014, in Providence after a dispute over a tax refund.

They say Northup, Figueroa and their girlfriends, who were sisters, had planned to share the refund. Northup accused them of holding back some of the money.

Northup shot Figueroa, who later recovered, in the chin and ribs with a .25-caliber handgun.

Defense attorney Kevin Salvaggio did not return a message seeking comment.
