BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A Buffalo Schools spokesperson says seven children at a city middle school have been checked out by paramedics after being sickened by drinking Gatorade spiked with an over-the-counter weight-loss supplement.

Spokeswoman Elena Cala tells local media outlets it happened Tuesday at Hamlin Park School after a seventh-grade student brought in the drink and shared it with six others shortly after noon. By 2 p.m., students were complaining of stomach cramps and other symptoms.

The administration called paramedics, who found the students had elevated heart rates. They were monitored until their heart rates went down, then were released to their parents.

Cala says the student who brought in the spiked drink was suspended.
