COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) - A northern Idaho man who killed his fiancee has been sentenced to 36 years in prison.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reports (https://bit.ly/1EEnGLu) that 45-year-old Christopher Wayne Thompson of Post Falls received the sentence Monday in 1st District Court.

He must serve 16 years before becoming eligible for parole.

Thompson previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the October 2013 death of 57-year-old Deborah A. Willette of Post Falls.

Police say Thompson slit Willette’s throat during an argument and then tried to get friends to dispose of the body.
