BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) - A 77-year-old Ohio woman likely is facing prison time after admitting that she caused her mother’s death by severe neglect.

Mary Strawser pleaded guilty on Monday to reckless homicide and theft from an elderly person.

Prosecutors say she neglected Blanche Cowen for years, leaving her to die sick and filthy on a couch in a dilapidated trailer in rural Rushsylvania in west-central Ohio. They say Strawser lived in a nice house nearby.

Authorities found the 100-year-old Cowen dead in March 2014, after a mentally-disabled man who also lived in the trailer called 911 to say Cowen wasn’t breathing.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1BJlFf0 ) reports Strawser could face up to six years in prison when she’s sentenced May 4.

The prosecutor says it’s the worst case of elder neglect he’d ever seen.
