MILTON, Mass. (AP) - Police say someone carefully placed an explosive device in a house in Milton that was designed to ignite when a light switch was turned on.

A Boston bomb squad disarmed the device Tuesday afternoon. No one was hurt.

Milton Police Chief Richard Wells told the Patriot Ledger of Quincy (https://bit.ly/1y3hk65) the switch was rigged to first set the rafters on fire, setting off the explosive.

He said at the scene the house had been rented but was about to be listed for sale.

Neighbors told the Ledger there had been a “for sale” sign on the house for several years. The owner, Lindel Williams, told the newspaper three tenants live there, but he doesn’t know them. .

Police said they had recently been called to the house for a vandalism report.
