AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Augusta police have released the name of the woman they believe fell into the frigid Kennebec River last weekend.

Deputy Chief Jared Mill says “there is a high probability” that the woman seen Saturday is 54-year-old Kelly Voytasko, of Augusta.

Police say they received multiple calls at about 1 p.m. Saturday from people who saw a woman standing on the ice just north of the Calumet Bridge. The woman went into a section of open water and rescue attempts were unsuccessful.

Police, firefighters, the Maine Marine Patrol and wardens from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife responded to help search for the woman.

Mills says recovery efforts have been suspended until conditions improve on the dangerous and icy river.
