CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - State environmental officials are conducting a public meeting about cleanup negotiations for the site of a chemical spill last year.

The Department of Environmental Protection meeting will take place Tuesday at the Charleston Civic Center.

Freedom Industries has applied for DEP’s Voluntary Remediation and Redevelopment Program.

Under the program’s agreement, Freedom would have to identify human health and ecological risks associated with potential future uses of the site; establish remediation standards; and ensure those standards are maintained.

The plan must also ensure there is no future threat to drinking water.

A January 2014 leak at Freedom’s tank farm in Charleston spurred a tap-water ban for 300,000 people for days.
