RENO, Nev. (AP) - The first medical marijuana growing facility in Reno has won final state approval.

The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health found the Sierra Wellness Connection facility in Golden Valley to be compliant with all rules governing legal pot cultivation.

Former University of Nevada, Reno President Joseph Crowley is the president of the company. He says he first became interested in medical marijuana when his older brother was dying of multiple sclerosis.

Sierra Wellness plans to open Reno’s first medical pot dispensary in August, pending state and local approval.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (https://tinyurl.com/pb2xbgl) the Reno City Council is scheduled to consider a special business license on Wednesday for the dispensary planned on East Second Street near Renown Regional Medical Center.
