MARSHALL, Mich. (AP) - Blue ribbons, pictures and posters have been put up in Marshall after a 12-year-old boy was hit and critically injured by a pickup truck while trying to board a school bus.

Friends of David Newman placed messages at the city’s memorial circle after the boy was struck in Calhoun County on Friday morning. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports (https://bcene.ws/1FSNgAB ) he remained hospitalized in critical condition through the weekend.

The sheriff’s department says the seventh grader was hit in front of his home in Eckford Township as the Marshall Public Schools bus was stopped with its warning lights flashing. He was trying to cross the road at the time he was hit by the pickup driven by a 24-year-old Marshall man.

The crash is under investigation.
